Freya Copeland (Replika Publishing)
Youvalle Levy (Replika Publishing)
When we’re gone, which stories will live on? And how do we tell the stories of the world in which we live? Join us at the NIGHT EMBASSY for Post-Apocalyptic Live Zine presented by Replika Publishing. Together, we’ll learn how to develop a zine to reframe the world we live in away from the visions of dystopia they promise will come for us.
Replika co-founder Freya Copeland will be on-hand to guide the workshop. Her work as an artist and curator interrogates archival systems: What are the boundaries between personal narratives and institutional systems, for example, and what are the limitations of the photographic mediums?
She will be joined by fellow Replika co-founder Youvalle Levy, who’s work as an architect and photographer focuses on the use and creation of abstraction within architectural spaces. Art exists in space; Levy explores how to construct the physical spaces in which art can live and breath.
This event is open to all and free of charge, but space is limited. Get your tickets below.
Replika co-founder, Freya Copeland (b.1990), is an artist and curator primarily interested in archival systems, documents and evidential photography. Her work explores the boundaries between institutional systems and personal narratives, constantly drawing from any transitory written or printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved. Through media such as police evidence and pictorial encyclopedia, she demonstrates her predisposition to singling out the inherent limitations of the photographic medium and uses these restrictions as a vehicle for exploring personal narratives.
Youvalle Levy (b.1991) as well as co-founding Replika, has studied both photography and Architecture in Berlin. She is interested in documenting spaces and abstractions and creating abstractions defined within architectural space. Through various mediums the relationship between documenting, creating and archiving is paramount in her artistic work. However, architecture remains the ground stone on which Youvalle deals with creating spaces specifically for art and artists within the capacity of curator. Her work explores the basic need for art to exist in a space, and how to construct a physical space which fulfils this need.
Based in Berlin since 2015, Replika Publishing is a small independent publishing house producing work under two main branches; Replika Volumes and replika artist books.
Replika Volumes is a self-published, three dimensional, curated artist periodical featuring the works of ten international artists and an artist catalogue which expands upon the edition with a further 30 contributors. With each issue, artists, writers, musicians and creators of all descriptions are invited to explore a given theme, and to respond with an object-based, serialised work. Influences by Fluxus, we intend to explore new methods of exhibition through printed matter and book arts.
Replika also works closely with selected artists to produce artist books in small runs. recent titles include Footfalls Echo from Award winning photographer Freya Copeland.
